Following the Bread Crumbs to Bamboo Bikes and 400+ Yogis

10/16/2015

I used to relate traveling through life to crossing a river. The goal is to get to the other side.. How you get there has soooo many options: You could swim, hop rocks, boat, etc. Lately that metaphor has evolved for me into following bread crumbs. You find one at a time while trusting that the next one will show up when you need it.

Three years ago today I was teaching dance and yoga at a college prep boarding school in central Utah. We had learned a ton over our 8 years of being there, made great friends, built (with our own hands) a straw bale home developed thriving photography (Russ) and dance (me/Brittany) programs.

The next bread crumb we were hoping for was teaching and living overseas.

Two years ago we were both living in China teaching at an international school in China debating how long we would stay abroad and when we would pull the trigger on our secret dream of owning our own businesses (me owning a yoga studio and Russ owning a bike shop.

The next bread crumb we were hoping for was to "work" for ourselves and open a business revolved around community, yoga, and bikes.

This time last year, Russ was living in China, still teaching, but also playing bike polo and learning how to build bamboo bicycles while I was here in Colorado with a Meetup group teaching yoga in Denver area parks. It was in these parks that I met my first Colorado yogis and friends that have been incredible cheerleaders. Each person that joined in the yoga fun was a bread crumb nourishing me along the way.

The next bread crumb we were hoping for was for CCYOGA to be thriving in a way that is was "safe" for Russ to join me in entrepreneurship and open CCBIKES.

Fast forward to today...Russ is here now getting CCBIKES going leading bamboo bike frame building workshops. Which I might add is so so so cool!  He's empowering people through a technical building process that leads them to the creation of their very own one of a kind and sustainable bicycle! And next door to that I'm running CCYOGA with 4 other incredible teachers, that together we have served over 400 people through yoga since I started in the parks in August of 2014.

When I stop and think about how it all happened and is currently happening my mind is blown! What a gift these bread crumbs have been to be able to share our passions with others, from when we met in Chicago in 2004 to Utah to China to Lakewood, CO.

I ran a report in my management software just now and read each and every name of the people that have touched my life by coming to a CCYOGA class and was truly overwhelmed with gratitude. I mean literally crying. I'm that person that bawls happy tears reading over 400 peoples names!

I told my friend Kari the other day how much fun it is following all of these bread crumbs. And she replied, "Brittany, you're not following the bread crumbs. You're creating the bread crumbs." Whoah! Mind blown!

Dramatic pause....because I'm not quite sure what to do with that point just yet. All I know is that in this moment I'm acknowledging
what a blessing it is to be able to connect with people is such a fun and beautiful way! To those of you that have been and are currently a part of the Container Collective community please know that we are truly, authentically, 100% grateful for you.

With all that being said, the next bread crumbs we are hoping to create are to invite even more bamboo frame makers and yogis to join the fun. Aaaaaand to buy the property so we can add shipping containers to for Container Collective Brews (coffee, tea, beer, and wine).

I get giddy thinking about what is possible with the bread crumbs we make next for our Container Collective community!

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

Yoga:

Brittany is kind and thoughtful. She makes the new learner feel comfortable and builds on the practice of advanced students. She demonstrates the different modifications so you can benefit through each movement. She is easy to understand and knows how to approach each individual so you can always leave with something that you accomplished and/or learned. She is easy to talk with and her love for yoga is contagious.
—Cassandra B.

Bikes:

This is the coolest place. I built my own bamboo bike here and Russ, who led the workshop, was so awesome. Possibly one of the coolest things I've ever done. My bike is a single speed, but rides so smooth, and dare I say better than my Specialized. It's super light, sexy as f&#$, rides soft but solid. Russ was really cool and patient and let me go in whenever I fancied to make tiny adjustments here and there. Money especially well spent. And I can't wait to build my next one. I'm seriously addicted and really proud of what I was able to produce. #Lifegoals
