What Does Transformation Even Look Like?

It is quite amazing how the yoga works.  I am pretty sure that almost everyone who has taken on the practice has seen some sort of change or another.  Maybe it is in the way your physical body looks, feels and moves. Maybe it is a shift in your thought process and way of looking at the world.  Maybe you show yourself more kindness, gratitude or forgiveness.
No matter what the change, it's not an overnight shift or a miraculous miracle.  It is often something that occurs over time and maybe you don’t even realize it until you stop and ask yourself if you have noticed any type of change in your life because of yoga.
Here is our take on transformation and yoga at Container Collective Yoga:

For me, personally, I noticed that it has calmed me down (if you can believe that!).  I have always been a multitasker, “go getter”, the energizer bunny, the “don’t rest until you are dead” kind of person.  And for the life of me I could not understand what was wrong with people who were not the same way I was. That was until I walked into my first Baptiste yoga class...well, maybe not my first, but possibly the 5th or so!  I learned to B R E A T H E...yeah, as simple as that. B R E A T H E. Deep inhale in, long exhale out and after doing that time and time again I saw it come off my mat and into my life. Difficult decisions in my life were made with ease, I stopped to listen, to think, to pay attention.  Breathe and acting with intention has transferred off my mat and into my life leading me to quite the transformation.

Who would’ve thought that by signing up for a restorative yoga class that it was going to take me on a life changing path. Yoga for me has been an incredible journey in transforming my mind and body. It was key to me losing 50+ pounds and continues to help keep me fit. It’s calmed my mind and relaxed my anger and irritability. And I’ve met some amazing people along the way.

Yoga has transformed me in the way I view myself & the ones I love.  Physically, it's transformed my body & my body image.  I used to have an incredibly unhealthy relationship with my body & the way I saw it in the mirror.  I now love how strong I am & seeing muscles (especially in my arms!) that I never thought I'd have.  Mentally & emotionally--yoga has transformed the way I interact with my thoughts & emotions.  I used to allow my thoughts & emotions to fully "run the show."  While that hasn't gone away, I have created a mind-body connection through yoga that helps me tune into emotional shifts & unhealthy thoughts much more quickly.  I can feel tightness in my chest, shortness of breath & understand that it's a signal from my body that anxiety is creeping in & I use my Ujjayi Breath to slow everything down.  Yoga has also taught me that feelings, thoughts, & life events are not permanent & can, instead, be transformed into experiences of learning & growth.

Yoga has made me less reactive off the mat especially professionally. I work in a fast paced residential agency where I have to make urgent decisions regarding where to move an at risk adult.  I have learned to slow down and breath. Allowing yourself a few moments to assess the situation before reacting creates the foundation for a solid decision to be made.

We would love to hear from you on how Yoga has transformed your life on or off the mat!
